About the JCL Major, HASS Division, and UIC
The Justice and Civil Leadership (JCL) major aims to develop future leaders with keen awareness of, and specialized training in, issues relating to justice for individuals and society in the public and private sectors, both domestically and internationally. The JCL major, by developing methodologies from the humanities and social sciences, allows students to acquire and deepen their knowledge in the fields of philosophy, politics, economics and sociology. In addition, through training in legal theory, legal philosophy, law and society and other related fields, the major aims to cultivate the critical civic leadership skills necessary to resolve the critical issues facing governments and civil society through public discourse.
The Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (HASS) Division of the UIC focuses on interdisciplinary approaches covering various fields of interest from regional studies, art, business, social sciences, and humanities. Students not only specialize in their respective fields, but also learn to explore and utilize the broader perspectives and framework that are necessary in today’s workplaces, whether it be the public sector, multinational corporations, NGOs, or academia.
